- The Philadelphia Warriors, led by Paul Arizin, Neil Johnston, and rookie Tom Gola, defeated the Fort Wayne Pistons 4–1 in the 1956 NBA Finals.
- This was the Warriors’ second championship (first was in 1947, in the BAA).
- The Eastern Division was stronger this year, with Philadelphia posting the league’s best record.
- The Western Division had a tight race for playoff spots, with multiple teams finishing within a few games of each other.
